Rugby Photographer of the Year with Canterbury is a competition that celebrates the very best of rugby photography, both amateur and professional from across the globe, culminating in an exhibition at the World Rugby Museum at Twickenham.

Last year’s competition saw more than 600 photographers enter from over 30 different countries, all competing for their work to feature in an exhibition at the home of English rugby and a £1,000 first prize. Rugby Photographer of the Year finalists has been viewed by millions of people at Twickenham’s World Rugby Museum. Once again, every shortlisted entry from all categories, chosen by our panel of expert judges from the worlds of rugby and photography, will appear. The overall winner will be announced at a special event hosted at the World Rugby Museum in September 2023.

The prizes

All shortlisted entries will have their work featured in an exhibition at the World Rugby Museum inside Twickenham Stadium. Category winners will be revealed online, before the overall winner is announced at the awards evening at the World Rugby Museum in Twickenham. A cash prize of £1,000 will be awarded to the overall Grand Prix winner of Rugby Photographer of the Year with Canterbury. In addition, they will receive a full set of bespoke Canterbury teamwear to be donated to a team of their choice. All category winners will also feature in a special edition of Rugby Journal. Additional prizes may be provided by sponsors, to be confirmed at a later date.

How to enter

Entries must have been taken between 1st April 2022 and July 16th 2023. You can enter only one (1) image per category, except for the Portfolio of the Year category where you can submit ten (10) images to show a body of work.

Category winners will be revealed online, before the overall winner is announced at the awards evening at the World Rugby Museum in Twickenham.

Entries for Rugby Photographer of the Year with Canterbury 2023 are now closed.

  • Open to photographers aged seventeen years and under.

  • An image of any individual involved in the game: player, coach, volunteer or spectator.

  • A photograph that brings to life the split-second moments that embody the sport.

  • An image from beyond the eighty minutes, that reflects the spirit of the game.

  • A picture that is as much about the setting as the game itself, that gives a sense of place.

  • A collection of up to ten images from different matches in the same season, reflecting a body of work.
